THE LEGEND
It all began in the late 1996 when mr. Kolmas Vasemmalta fell to Moscows
Red Square. There he was introduced to a notorious russian political movement
called Mes Rei. Mr. Vasemmalta felt that he shared most of the groups
political beliefs, so he wanted to help them getting their message through.
Mr Vasemmalta showed them how to make music with powerfull message allthought
its without lyrics. Together they built a synthesizer like machine
out of old washing machines and computers and started to practise.
Kolmas Vasemmalta left Moscow right after Mes Rei got their third song
"Nailonsiima" ready in the early fall of 1997 allmost a year
after he had suddenly fallen to the Red Square.
Over the next year Mes Rei continued to produce more music including the
dance hit "Sata Kieltä" and the very impressive "Mannish
is Maniac".
Later that year some of the groups members travelled to Finland
to meet their teacher Kolmas Vasemmalta in his own environment.
During the trip they gave birth to songs "7 Brothers" and "Midnight
Jenkka" and also met the finnish techno-disco pioneers Polyphonic
Stellar Juice. Their cooperation led to tracks "Trying to get your
James" and "String of Pearls".
At the same time in Moscow Natalie, Katherina and others created two tracks
with the most powerfull message yet: "Sodanmieli" and "This
is Not in Fashion". Mes Rei started to use a pseudonym when working
abroad in the spring of 1999. They named themselves James Reipas, because
they got their first song "7 Brothers" released then.
In the autumn of 1999 they were lucky to be introduced to Helsinkis
greatest disc-jockey talent mr Taittovirhe, who really does know how to
make the grooviest sounds. Together they made the truly enjoyable and
mesmerizing "Holy Lola".
James Reipas luck continued next spring as they got a chance to
work with famous music guru Hullu Hattu in a song called "Maailmanpyörä".
After more than a year in Finland the members returned to Moscow headquarters
.
After creating "Aljosa" the long waited album was allmost there.
But they still needed a song that would sum up their beliefs
Kolmas
Vasemmalta was originally invited to Moscow to play acoustic guitar on
"Aljosa" and "This is Not in Fashion" but the group
asked him to also play guitar and produce the song they had been working
on for a long time. The track was a 12 minutes long masterpiece called
"Nature of Reipas". Kolmas Vasemmalta realised that the song
was really a top one so he decided to do the job in Finland where he could
gather an impressive team of mr Taittovirhe and ms Tiina-Irmeli to help
him to produce the track.
He also invited the legendary Oskari Olevainen, the world´s most
progressive drummer, to play additional live drums. After two weeks of
hard working in Finland the track was ready.
And so was the album.
Things had been getting a bit restless for James Reipas in the eastern
Europe so they started to look for a publisher abroad. In the autumn of
2000 they found the perfect one, Demon Tea Recordings from Australia.
Demon Tea didn´t try to anyway influence on the albums music
or cover material. They gave the artist free hands to create an album
that would truly reflect Mes Reis mind and thoughts.
That´s how the first album of James Reipas was born.
